Two people have been hospitalised after a building collapsed in Ultimo.
Emergency responders were called to Wattle Street just before 11am on Monday after the roof of the building caved in and a wall crashed onto cars parked at the Shell service station next door.
Paramedics assessed seven patients on the scene, two of whom were hospitalised in a serious condition. They were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital.
Four others affected by the collapse declined medical attention.
One witness said he had been parked near the building two minutes before it collapsed.
“I heard a noise, many noise[s], so I moved my scooter,” he told TNV.
“I don’t know what it is exactly. It was not normal, it was a lot of noise. I was shocked, I was surprised … I’m good. I feel really well. I’m lucky.”
Police have arrived at the scene and have begun an investigation into the incident. The Building Commission NSW, which regulates the construction industry, is also expected to attend the site.
Two of four northbound lanes on Wattle Street have been closed, and motorists have been advised to exercise caution and expect delays.
