Allegations of attempted match fixing in Queensland soccer have led to the arrest and extradition of two men.

Homes in the Sydney suburbs of Mosman and Mount Colah were raided on Tuesday as part of a sprawling investigation into reports of attempted manipulation of soccer games on the Gold Coast this year.

Police alleged two employees of an offshore investment group acting as “agents” approached a player in Coomera in May and June, offering money in exchange for guaranteeing results.

The suspects were arrested this week and extradited to Queensland to face charges of procuring a person to engage in match fixing.

“Match-fixing is serious criminal behaviour that undermines community confidence in the fairness of sport,” Detective Chief Inspector Melissa Anderson said.

“These charges should serve as a clear warning to anyone considering taking part in match-fixing.”

The men, aged 55 and 45, would appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.

It is only the second time a person has been charged with the offence since new match-fixing laws were introduced in 2014.

The raids reportedly came after police received new information in the long-term investigation.
