“Mayor of Kingstown” is coming to an end.
The crime thriller television series, created by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon and starring Jeremy Renner, will finish after its fifth and final season.
Paramount has not officially detailed why it’s choosing not to renew the show for a sixth season. The decision is especially baffling because it follows the show’s most successful season yet.
“Mayor of Kingstown” Season 4 has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, compared with the first season’s 31%, so its popularity was clearly growing. On Aug. 13, 2025, Paramount’s streaming chief Cindy Holland even called the Taylor Sheridan universe “a really great foundation” for Paramount+.
It may be because Sheridan has enough on his plate. The streamer has ordered new seasons of his shows “Landman,” “Tulsa King” and “Lioness.” Meanwhile, three “Yellowstone” offshoots (“The Madison,” “Dutton Ranch,” and “Y: Marshals”) are set to premiere in 2026, along with “Tulsa King” spinoff “NOLA King” starring Samuel L. Jackson.
“Mayor of Kingstown” hasn’t been as big a draw as Sheridan’s other shows. Based on Nielsen data, season four failed to crack the weekly top ten of streaming originals. Throughout its run, only season three in 2024 temporarily managed a spot. Conversely, both “Landman” and “Tulsa King” have charted consistently, with considerably higher watch times.
It may also be “Mayor of Kingstown” reached its natural term limit. Five seasons is still a respectable run, and it’s one in keeping with Paramount+’s other series. “Star Trek Discovery” and “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” both bowed out after five seasons. Sheridan’s earlier drama, “Yellowstone” also lasted five seasons.
So, what to expect from the final season?
What Will Happen in ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Season 5?
Paramount+ hasn’t released a season five synopsis yet, but seeing as it’s the show’s last, expect it to definitively conclude most existing plots and character arcs.
Following on from season 4, Mike might have to continue protecting his vulnerable younger brother Kyle (Taylor Handley) from a prison gang after Kyle took revenge on Aryan Brotherhood leader Merle Callahan (Richard Brake). Meanwhile, there’s an ongoing war between Kingstown Crips leader Bunny (Tobi Bamtefa) and Colombian drug dealers that threatens to explode.
When Did ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Release?
“Mayor of Kingstown” premiered Nov. 14, 2021, on Paramount+. In Jan. 2026, the series was renewed for a fifth and final season.
‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Season 5 How Many Episodes?
