There’s a severe weather warning in place across Perth and southern WA this morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology says a strong cold front crossed the southwest yesterday, with a second strong cold front expected to cross early this morning, bringing with it damaging winds.

Residents are being reminded to tie down loose furniture, with winds expected to average 50 to 65km/h, with peak gusts of up to 100km/h.

The winds will persist into the afternoon and evening, making it a rare weather event, with similar winds only recorded about five times per year.

Locations which may be affected include Albany, Bunbury, Esperance, Katanning, Mandurah, Manjimup, Margaret River, Merredin, Mount Barker, Narrogin, Northam and Perth.

Cape Leeuwin already copped some strong winds from the first front, with winds of 119km/h recorded at 1pm yesterday. Rottnest Island recorded 94km/h at 9.50am.
