A row of heritage shopfronts on Hay Street in Subiaco have been saved from demolition after the City of Subiaco won its legal bid to stop a developer bulldozing the area.
The State Administrative Tribunal, yesterday, confirmed it had dismissed an application for review from building group Sanur to demolish 424 to 440 Hay Street.

The $250 million application to redevelop the site into a commercial and retail precinct, was first lodged in 2020, with the council rejecting the plans, saying any future development had to retain the heritage buildings.
Mayor David McMullen welcomed the long-awaited SAT decision.
“These buildings have stood for over 100 years and have many more years in them,” he said.
“For reasons they have never cogently articulated to us, the owner of this site seems to want nothing more than to demolish the buildings and all the stories, memories and heritage that they contain.”
The builder argued the buildings were unstable, and posed a safety risk, however the SAT found it was not necessary to bulldoze them and urged Sanur and the council to move forward quickly with a new plan for the area, which has been shuttered since 2021.
