An excitable golden Labrador retriever has melted hearts across the internet after a video showed her waking up her owner with overwhelming affection.
The viral clip, which has amassed over 1 million likes and more than 6.4 million views on TikTok, captures the moment Charlie Mae notices her owner open her eyes at precisely 6:35 a.m., showering her owner in kisses and tail wags as she stirs from sleep.
“She is the light of my life and brings me so much joy! It’s just the two of us, so we spend a lot of time together. I absolutely love walking 15,000 steps with her a day, taking her to the park, hitting up every store that has dog treats outside, and saying hi to anyone on the street that wants to pet her,” Charlie Mae’s owner, who goes by @charliemae_lablover on TikTok, told Newsweek.
Now 4.5 years old, Charlie Mae has been part of her owner’s life since she was just 7 weeks old. In the now-viral video, the Labrador can be seen bouncing around the bed, visibly thrilled that a new day has begun—her energy practically infectious.
Charlie Mae’s joy, however, is more than just charming—it is also healing. Her owner shared that the dog has become a bright spot during a difficult time, as her father lives with dementia.
“While he doesn’t remember everything, he asks my mom about Charlie everyday and when is she coming to visit. Charlie loves my dad so much, so we are excited to visit him all the time, and hopefully will bring joy to other people in his assisted living facility,” she added.
TrustedHousesitters says that dogs often wake up with extra affection because they mirror the pack mentality of wild canines, who greet one another joyfully to reinforce bonds after resting. Morning is also when pups are naturally energetic and excited to begin their daily routine—especially when it includes breakfast and walks.
Moreover, research from Alzheimer’s Society shows that dogs can provide valuable emotional support to people with dementia. Their presence can ease anxiety, reduce loneliness, and bring moments of joy and comfort that transcend memory loss.
The wholesome video struck a chord with TikTok users, who flooded the comments with laughter and heartfelt reactions.
“Omg [oh my God] … YES WERE WAKING UP!!!! Oh thank god YES,” wrote one commenter, Rachel.
“Arm placement like he’s the big spoon,” another user posted.
“My collie used to pounce on me like she was performing CPR in the mornings, then she’d rip the covers off me. Wasn’t so much because she was happy to see me but she wanted to go to work, once she figured out how to unlock and open the door I got my sleep ins back,” shared Sarah.
“Imagine being happy to wake up,” commented another user, B.
“Oh she was WAITING for you,” someone else added.
“This would be way more effective than an alarm tbf [to be fair],” added Maddie Tomkins.
