On Sunday morning, the Philadelphia Phillies swung a blockbuster trade to bring Miami Marlins ace Jesús Luzardo to the City of Brotherly Love. Luzardo joins a talented starting rotation of All-Stars.

With the Phillies adding a star, they may likely continue to make other moves as well.

FanSided’s Mark Powell recently predicted the Phillies would cut ties with All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm following the addition of Luzardo. Bohm is projected to sign a seven-year, $142 million deal when he hits free agency in 2027, per Spotrac.

“The Phillies sound set to sell high on third baseman Alec Bohm. While I don’t particularly share their affinity for Nolan Arenado or other available corner infielders, Bohm is coming off his best season, as he had 3.0 WAR and 97 RBIs, both career highs,” Powell wrote. “If the Phillies believe Bohm has peaked, dealing him now makes the most sense, especially if they can get a replacement and more MLB-ready talent in return.”

Bohm is such an interesting case.

He’s talented, young, controllable, and a good teammate. The Phillies would only be trading him to trade high on his value. This made sense when they were rumored to be interested in starting pitchers like Luis Castillo and Garrett Crochet. Bohm could have been the key piece in a package for an ace.

Now that Philadelphia has acquired a starting pitcher, there’s no position of need that would warrant Philadelphia to move its starting infielder. More than likely, the Phillies will hold onto Bohm.
