Two popcorn seasoning products have been recalled nationwide because of fears they could trigger life-threatening allergic reactions.
TS Food Packaging initiated the recall because of an undeclared soy ingredient present in the seasonings. Soy is a known allergen, according to the Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Service.

TS Food Packaging has announced a recall of its “Rural King” and “Wabash Valley Farms” bacon popcorn seasonings because of the presence of an undeclared soy ingredient.
According to the FDA, the products were recalled because they pose a serious health risk to individuals with soy allergies, as consuming them could trigger severe or life-threatening allergic reactions.
The affected “Bacon Seasonings” were distributed nationwide through retail stores and e-commerce platforms such as Amazon. They are packaged in 4.2-ounce plastic jars with the lot numbers 17324s, 27824s and 30324s and in 1-ounce sample gift packets with the lot numbers 16524SP, 16624SP, 23424SP, 26324SP, 26424SP, 26724SP, 20624S and 20724S.
The recall was initiated following a manufacturing quality verification that showed a supplier had substituted a soy-containing ingredient without notifying TS Food Packaging. A subsequent investigation identified a gap in the substitution review process between the supplier and its customers. Corrective measures have been implemented to prevent this issue from recurring, the recall announcement said.
No illnesses related to the recall have been reported. Consumers with soy allergies are urged to avoid these products and contact the company for further instructions.
A soy allergy can trigger a range of symptoms, from mild to severe, depending on the individual. Common effects include skin reactions, such as hives or eczema; gastrointestinal issues, such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; and respiratory symptoms, such as wheezing or difficulty breathing. In severe cases, exposure to soy can cause anaphylaxis, a life-threatening reaction that may involve the swelling of the throat, a sudden drop in blood pressure and difficulty breathing, requiring immediate medical attention.
