Prince Harry revealed he intends to put his father, King Charles III, front and center.

In an interview with The Guardian, published on Sunday, September 14, the Duke of Sussex offered candid reflections on his recent reunion with his dad, confirming his new goal for “the coming year,” as defined by the outlet.

“The focus really has to be on my dad,” Harry, 41, said.

When asked whether he would like to “spend more time in the U.K.” and perhaps “bring his children one day,” Harry added, “Yes I would. This week has definitely brought that closer.” (Harry shares two children with wife Meghan Markle: a son, Archie, 6, and a daughter, Lilibet, 4.)

Us Weekly revealed exclusive details into the reunion between Harry and King Charles, 76, which took place at Clarence House on Wednesday, September 10. After more than two years of estrangement, the meeting “was sparked by a handwritten letter from Harry earlier this year to Charles expressing his desire to reconnect,” per an insider.

Harry, who left the Montecito, California, home he shares with Markle, 44, to visit the U.K. for the annual WellChild Awards and the Center for Blast Injury Studies at Imperial College in London, reportedly met with his dad at 5:20 p.m. on the Wednesday.

According to Sky News, the duo talked for around 54 minutes before Harry left for an Invictus Games event. The source who spoke to Us noted that the pair’s discussion included “catching up personally about the children and what has been going on with Charles and his health.” The insider also said that the meeting brought on “hugs and tears.” (King Charles announced on February 5, 2024 that he had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer.)

Harry’s latest remarks regarding his relationship with King Charles come just months after he told the BBC that he “would love reconciliation with my family.” Harry told the outlet during the May interview, “I don’t know how much longer my father has.”

In the wake of King Charles’ diagnosis going public, Harry told ABC News that he flew to the U.K. immediately to see him. “I spoke to him,” Harry told the outlet on February 17, 2024. “I jumped on a plane and went to go and see him as soon as I could. I love my family.”

Harry married Markle, 44, in 2018, and two years later, the couple stepped down as senior royals. The pair also left the U.K. in 2020 for a fresh start in Montecito, where they continue to reside with their children.

During Harry’s interview with The Guardian, he noted that he is happier than ever living life in the United States. “I think parts of the British press want to believe that I am miserable, but I’m not,” he told the outlet. “I am very happy with who I am and I like the life that I live.”
