Joshua Jackson wrote an emotional letter to his ex-wife Jodie Turner-Smith objecting to their daughter being away from him for weeks at a time as the exes continue to fight over custody in court, Us Weekly can exclusively report.
Us Weekly obtained the letter that the Dawson’s Creek star, 46, wrote on May 26.
The note was used as an exhibit to Jackson’s recent motion requesting the court intervene in a dispute over where their daughter Juno will go to school.
Jackson wants to keep Juno, 5, in her current school, but Turner-Smith, 38, seeks to switch to a different one.
The actor, who lost his home in the recent Los Angeles wildfires, said the school Turner-Smith wants is much further from his temporary home.
In addition, Jackson said he did not approve of Turner-Smith’s proposal to take Juno to London for five weeks while she is working overseas.
In his letter to Turner-Smith, the actor wrote, “Thank you for your quick response. I am happy that we are having this dialogue and look forward to coming to an agreement together that balances all of [Juno’s] needs to provide her with the best outcome possible.”
Jackson said he was on board with some of Turner-Smith’s requests but had some issues.
“I am open to Juno being with you any time you may be able to return to Los Angeles [during her time away in London for work]. I don’t think it’s good for Juno to go for as long as you have proposed without seeing either parent, whenever it is reasonably possible for us to avoid without putting undue stress on Juno.”
He added, “At this age 4 weeks is an eternity to her. I understand why you are willing to agree to have Juno be based in Los Angeles during that time, it reduces the stress of air travel and time zone shifting on her.”
The actor noted that he was not in agreement with Turner-Smith that Juno would not have time with him for six weeks.
He said, “Thankfully this summer I have the ability to travel, thereby reducing the need for Juno to incur additional travel while still being able to provide her with a frequent, continuing and meaningful contact with both parents.”
He added, “I think that maximizing that frequent, continuing and meaningful contact should be our guiding light [through] all of these conversations and planning of parenting time. Juno needs both of us. Ideally exactly equally.”
Jackson also objected to a proposed trip Turner-Smith planned to Morocco with Juno.
He added, “I do not agree for Juno to travel with you to Morocco. I will need much more information, dates, places, hotels, security, your work [schedule] etc and a meaningful discussion with [you] prior to considering any specific travel to Morocco or anywhere else for that matter.”
He brought up an alleged “issue” that happened last year, “where you let me know about your travel plans with her only after Juno was on her way to London or already there.”
Jackson’s note also addressed research Turner-Smith presented about the mother relationship for biracial children.
He told his ex, “I have read some articles about this, but I am always willing to educate myself further if you can send me some links or citations. I am already in agreement that the mother/daughter relationship is of huge importance. I recognize that there are areas of Juno’s experience that I cannot touch or speak to from my own experience.”
He added, “I hope you agree that the father/daughter relationship is also of huge importance.”
As Us Weekly previously reported, Jackson filed for divorce from Turner-Smith in October 2023. He cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
The exes settled their divorce earlier this year. Per their agreement, Jackson will make two payments of $133,333 to Turner-Smith.
Jackson will pay Turner-Smith $2,787 per month in child support, but the amount will change based on his income.
Jackson and Turner-Smith agreed to share joint legal and physical custody of Juno.
