The Los Angeles Rams pulled out a slim 21-19 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday in the eagerly awaited NFC West matchup for the division lead.
Even though the final score was only a two-point differential in the Rams’ favor, it could’ve been more noticeable with their defense forcing Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold into throwing four interceptions, which is his most in a game since 2019 against the New England Patriots.
However, the Seahawks’ defense also had an impressive performance, not allowing the Rams to capitalize on every turnover. Seattle also still had a chance to win the game before kicker Jason Myers missed the potential game-winning 61-yard field goal that was set up by a Rams defensive pass interference call.
Regardless of the result, defensive linemen Leonard Williams were still encouraged by the defense’s overall performance and their efforts to slow down Matthew Stafford, who has been an MVP candidate this season with 2,557 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and only two interceptions.
“I just know I look forward to seeing them again,” Williams exclaimed in the post-game conference, per Gregg Bell, Seahawks beat reporter for the News Tribune. Williams will get his wish in Week 16, a little over a month from now, when the Seahawks host the Rams at Lumen Field, where they are only 3-2 on the season but won by a massive margin last week against the Arizona Cardinals. Keep in mind that both teams could face off a third time in the playoffs, depending on how the rest of the regular season plays out in the NFC.
Williams recorded four tackles on Sunday and played a huge role in containing the running game in the second half. The two-time Pro Bowler has 19 solo tackles and five sacks through ten games. Williams was drafted sixth overall in 2015 by the New York Jets and had his best season with the New York Giants, recording a career-high 11.5 sacks in 2020.
With the way things have shaped up so far this season and the rematch nearing, there is no question that the race for the NFC West crown is going to come down to the wire. The Rams will remain home for a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next week, and the Seahawks are heading down to Nashville for a date with the Tennessee Titans.
