Selling Sunset viewers saw Nicole Young get dismissed from The Oppenheim Group — but she’s now claiming she wasn’t actually fired.
During an Instagram Q&A on Friday, October 31, Nicole, 39, was asked where she currently works, to which she replied, “I still work at The Oppenheim Group. Getting ‘fired’ was just a dramatic story line.”
Nicole claimed she wasn’t aware how her filming pause would be addressed. “I wasn’t privy to until I saw the episode where the cast was told I was let go,” she added.
Chrishell Stause made similar comments after season 9 premiered.
“I’m sure Jason [Oppenheim] is also pushed by production because they want to make the show light, and she keeps bringing it down to a dark place. I wasn’t that surprised, because I knew how production felt. They all checked in with me after, and promised me we weren’t going to have a negative season,” she told Variety on Friday. “She got fired from the show. They had her do interviews and at the reunion, but she was no longer at the group dinners or open houses. She’s not on the sheet anymore. Technically, she’s an independent contractor, so she can still carry her license and do real estate. As far as her moving and then not moving, you’d have to ask her. I have no idea what happens under that crazy wig.”
The duo first found themselves at odds during season 6 when Nicole accused Chrishell of only getting real estate listings as preferential treatment from boss (and ex) Jason Oppenheim. Chrishell pushed back by claiming Nicole was on drugs at a group dinner, which she denied but the tension continued off screen.
“The thirst for camera time on season 6 is REAL. Wow. That was insanity. But also SO transparent. Get your 15mins girl but leave my business out of it 🤡,” Chrishell wrote via Instagram at the time. “Screenshots have been archived for this very moment. Of COURSE you have a huge issue with me now — not before — when you have a camera crew around you. I hate fake 💩. If you want camera time — JUST SAY THAT. I would have helped you get the right angle. But don’t try to come for people I love or my business when you were added and I was there to hype you up, excited for you.”
Despite attempts on Chrishell’s side to address their issues in season 7, Nicole wouldn’t apologize. The divide got worse when Nicole brought up rumors on season 8 that Chrishell’s BFF Emma Hernan was allegedly sleeping with a married man. (Emma denied the rumors and Nicole later apologized.)
Season 9 concluded Nicole’s time on the show after she received backlash for bringing up Chrishell’s late parents on camera. The drama started when Chrishell (again) accused Nicole of doing drugs, to which she replied, “Honey, you’re confusing me with your parents, OK? You seem to be obsessed with drugs.”
Nicole was later asked not to come into The Oppenheim Group and subsequently made the decision to move to Nashville.
“I had a call with production two days ago during which they told me I have absolutely not been fired from the cast but they chose to pause my filming schedule until next week in order to protect me from situations on set that had become very contentious,” Nicole told Us Weekly in a statement in January when news broke about her not filming with the rest of the cast. “I’m still debating whether or not I want to continue filming in this kind of environment, especially with so many infuriating double standards.”
Nicole added: “Selling Sunset has been a great opportunity and a wild ride, but it is not my life or identity. I have a big, beautiful life outside of the show…and thankfully in the real world, my life and personality can’t be edited or misconstrued to portray me negatively to fit into a produced storyline.”
Chrishell originally broke her silence hours after Netflix released the new episodes.
“The build up clearly had to be condensed down. I didn’t bring the stupid drug thing up, but defended not lying and it escalated from there. Information was shared with me by another cast member that I brought up in the heat of the moment that I shouldn’t have,” she claimed via Instagram. “I would gladly free base off my desk if I never had to talk about this again.”
She continued: “I want to dedicate this season to my parents. Because of what was said, they are brought up in every interview that I do. They were such bad asses, and would be very proud of me. (Yes even after this dinner). My mom would have had some choice words for a few people, and we would have laughed. Thinking of that makes me smile, and I just want to add a positive memory to the conversation if they are going to be discussed.”
Selling Sunset is currently streaming on Netflix.
