Shocking video captured a police vehicle smashing into a pedestrian in a crosswalk just outside his retirement center in Montebello.
The unidentified victim was left in critical condition after the Saturday night crash, which occurred on Beverly Boulevard outside the Golden Manor Retirement Center, ABC7 reported.
Footage showed the male pedestrian walking in the crosswalk and scrambling to avoid the speeding police car as it mowed into him just steps from the sidewalk.
The officer was responding to a DUI call when the crash occurred, according to the Montebello Police Department. The vehicles lights or sirens did not appear to be on at the time, the video shows.
The pedestrian is now in stable condition, and the California Highway Patrol is investigating.
