“I have thought very deeply about this motion and we as a party room have discussed this,” she said.

“Some of the statements referred to are something I don’t endorse. It’s not my cup of tea, and personally, I don’t listen to it. I don’t know anyone on our side of the chamber who does, but you know what? Plenty of people do.

“[Collier] knows exactly how radio advertising works. She knows we don’t pick and choose which programs air, we have no power to regulate or censor the content.”

Interruptions and cries of “shame” continued throughout the charged debate.

Albanese has appeared on the program multiple times, and attended Sandilands’ wedding in 2023 alongside NSW Labor premier Chris Minns.

Labor said none of its Brisbane councillors have ever advertised with the show.

The Brisbane City Council motion was defeated along party lines, with all Labor councillors voting for and all LNP councillors against.

“The fundamental issue we raised last night is that this is ratepayer’s money – what you are forced to pay to live, work and play in Brisbane,” Collier said in a statement after the bid failed.

She credited group Mad F—ing Witches with bringing attention to the issue.
