A dog barely moving, showing nothing but fur and bones, undergoes an unrecognizable transformation after being rescued and later adopted by a vet technician.

Madison Ellis works as a technician at a veterinary clinic when a client called, explaining she had found a dog at one of her rental properties. The dog, named Hazel, had been locked in a cage and looked in terrible condition. She wanted to know if she could bring in the dog, which the clinic immediately said yes to.

When Hazel came in, she weighed only seven pounds. Her body looked like a full skeleton, as the beginning of a June 29 TikTok video posted to the account @megamindonwheels showed. Hazel could barely walk. She was too weak to stand to urinate or defecate, leaving Ellis responsible for expressing her bladder for about the first week.

Hazel received IV fluids and medications. She had scheduled feedings.

“We really didn’t think she was gonna make it because she was so bad, but we decided to give her the weekend to see if she made any improvements,” Ellis said. “She was already trying to stand by Monday.”

By the end of Hazel’s first week, she could walk a few steps on her own, but she remained unsteady and constantly fell. It took about three weeks for her to be able to walk normally, Ellis said.

Fast forward to now, and Hazel can not only walk, but run, jump and play with other dogs. She has added 10 pounds of weight since being rescued.

“It’s really amazing how fast she recovered from being so starved because I’ve only had her in total for two months!” Ellis said.

Ellis decided to adopt Hazel, giving her the around-the-clock attention and love she deserves. And despite what happened to Hazel, she’s been nothing but a happy dog.

“Every day I get home she greets me with a toy and a wiggling butt,” Ellis said. “She’s at home with me now, but does accompany me to work occasionally!”

Viewer Reactions

Touched by this incredible transformation, TikTok viewers flooded the video with praise, bringing in over 4.7 million views and 606,400 likes as of Monday.

“It literally looks like she’s decaying in the first picture, oh my god. It’s incredible that she survived that,” wrote one user.

Another added: “I audibly gasped. I hope Hazel is spoiled rotten for the rest of her life.”

Someone else chimed in: “Omg, I never seen before a dog that skeletic. This makes me really sad thinking about how much they can go through. They are so so so strong and they suffer so much for that.”
