Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek has said Australians want to see an immediate end to the death and starvation unfolding in Gaza, after more than 100,000 pro-Palestine demonstrators marched in Sydney and Melbourne yesterday.
Some 90,000 demonstrators marched on the Harbour Bridge, while 25,000 protesters congregated in the Melbourne CBD before concluding their demonstration at the King Street Bridge, which was blocked by a heavy police presence.

Plibersek praised the behaviour of demonstrators across the country, though noted that the closure of arterial roads and infrastructure necessary for the protests isn’t something she would like to see occur regularly.
“Most Australians understand that the peaceful right to protest is important in our democracy,” Plibersek told Seven’s Sunrise.
“I think Australians do want to send a message that there has been too much death, too many people have lost their lives, and we want to see the hostages return, we want to see humanitarian access to Gaza, we particularly don’t want to see children starving to death as a result of this conflict.”
