Many commuters who do not have flexible working options have been left inconvenienced by ongoing industrial action this morning after more than 130 train services were delayed or cancelled.
It was Briony Phillips’ first day on the job at Red Cross yesterday having just moved to Sydney from London last month. She expected to get to work easily, but instead was hit with hundreds of service cancellations.
Her job fundraising for the Red Cross means she has to work in person as she could be dispatched anywhere across Sydney for three days a week.
“We have to go everywhere and anywhere. Today I’m going to Caringbah, so I have to be here very early. All the trains are cancelled, so it’s quite annoying,” Phillips said.
She said she felt blindsided by the disruptions yesterday, and left home earlier today to make it to work on time.
“Getting home yesterday was a nightmare. It took me an hour and half to get home when it should have taken 45 minutes. But today I’m affected too.”
“It just puts me on edge to be honest, I’ve just moved to Sydney, and I’m used to train strikes in London all the time, but it’s just frustrating. It puts me more on edge because I don’t want to be late, so now I have to make sure that I’m even earlier.”
