Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged after two years together.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift, 35, captioned an Instagram post on Tuesday, August 26, alongside photos of Kelce, also 35, down on one knee.
The couple got engaged in a garden full of flowers and looked happier than ever in a series of images. In addition to the photo of Kelce proposing, the two looked lovingly into each other’s eyes in a second image. Swift also held on to the back of Kelce’s head in one photo, and a fourth had her ring — an old mine brilliant cut designed by Kindred Lubeck at Artifex Fine Jewelry — on full display. The last picture showed Swift sitting with her legs thrown across Kelce’s lap.
The NFL star’s interest in the singer first made headlines in July 2023 after he attempted to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number during her Kansas City, Missouri, Eras Tour concert. Later that month, he recounted on his “New Heights” podcast how he had failed to meet Swift at the show. She soon reached out to him after hearing the story.
Amid romance rumors, Swift and Kelce went public with their relationship in September 2023 when she attended one of his Kansas City Chiefs home games. She became a fixture in the stands as she cheered him on throughout the season, and he returned the favor when he traveled around the world to watch her perform, with his first visit taking place in Argentina in November 2023.
That same month, Kelce opened up about how he and Swift got together. “There were definitely people she knew that knew who I was, in her corner [who said]: ‘Yo! Did you know he was coming?’ I had somebody playing Cupid,” he told WSJ. Magazine in November 2023. “She told me exactly what was going on and how I got lucky enough to get her to reach out.”
Kelce then addressed how he adjusted to the attention surrounding Swift.
“Obviously I’ve never dated anyone with that kind of aura about them. … I’ve never dealt with it,” he said. “But at the same time, I’m not running away from any of it. … The scrutiny she gets, how much she has a magnifying glass on her, every single day, paparazzi outside her house, outside every restaurant she goes to, after every flight she gets off, and she’s just living, enjoying life. When she acts like that, I better not be the one acting all strange.”
In December 2023, Swift broke her silence on her relationship with Kelce, telling Time that it “started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell.” The two “started hanging out right after that,” according to Swift.
“We actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other,” she elaborated. “By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”
While Swift kept some of her past relationships under the radar, she took a different approach with Kelce.
“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” she explained. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”
As Swift and Kelce’s romance flourished, a source exclusively told Us Weekly in December 2023 that they’d “had plenty of really deep conversations about their future together” and tried to make “as much time for each other as possible” amid their “incredibly busy schedules.”
More recently, an insider revealed in April that it has “been so refreshing for Taylor not to feel the need to hide with Travis,” adding that he “makes her feel safe and protected like she has the freedom to be and act however she wants.”
Prior to their engagement, Swift had a six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn, while Kelce previously dated Kayla Nicole.
