Fans now know one of the team captains for the 2026 Solheim Cup in Bernardus, Netherlands.

Team Europe announced on Monday that Anna Nordqvist had been appointed captain.

Nordqvist is an LPGA veteran with a long history of winning in this biennial match-play event.

The Swedish golfer will look to lead Europe back to victory after they fell to Team USA 15.5-12.5 in 2024. Nordqvist was a playing vice-captain in both 2023 and 2024.

She is among the most successful Team Europe players, having won 17 times in 35 matches in nine appearances.

“Whether we were winning or losing, the Solheim Cup has played such a huge part in my career ever since I made my debut in 2009 in Chicago,” Nordqvist said in the press release.

“The friendships I have made, and the memories created during the nine matches I’ve played, make it so incredibly special to be given the opportunity to be European captain at my 10th Solheim Cup.”

The 37-year-old holds three majors, six more LPGA wins and four Ladies European Tour wins.

Nordqvist also has experience with the brand-new Solheim Cup location. The two teams will square off at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands. She visited the track in 2023.

“I feel especially fortunate to be the Captain at Bernardus Golf,” she said. “It’s a superb course for match play with fantastic facilities and a stunning clubhouse, so we couldn’t ask for a better stage for the 20th edition of the Solheim Cup. It’s also super close to Amsterdam, so I think the fans are going to have an amazing experience enjoying its rich culture and the famous warm Dutch hospitality.”

The track opened in 2018 but has hosted three editions of the KLM Dutch Open on the DP World Tour.

Can Nordqvist and Team Europe reclaim the Solheim Cup, or will the Americans find a way to win back-to-back?
