Three people have been killed in a five-vehicle crash on the Western Highway near Ararat in western Victoria.
Police said two cars, two small trucks and a B-double truck collided near the intersection of Thomas Road in the rural suburb of Armstrong, 220 kilometres west of Melbourne, about 12.30pm on Wednesday.
The Western Highway has been closed.
Those killed were the driver of one car and both occupants of one of the small trucks. They are yet to be formally identified.
The driver of the other car involved in the collision was taken to hospital as a precaution.
The highway is closed in both directions, with detours adding 20 kilometres and around 30 minutes to people’s journeys.
The exact circumstances of the collision are yet to be determined and investigations are ongoing.
