Tiffany Haddish is ready to get things running for the long-awaited sequel to her hit movie, Girls Trip.
“We had a meeting last week .. I’m telling it,” the actress, 45, exclusively revealed in her Us Weekly cover story. “They were saying we [are] gonna start shooting probably next year.”
Haddish added that filming could potentially begin in the “spring” of 2026, as they’re aiming for “before summer starts.”
“She ready,” Haddish quipped her go-to catchphrase before gushing, “I think it’s gonna be great. I think it’s going to be so much fun. Me and the girls were all talking. It was so funny, it was so good.”
Haddish starred in the 2017 comedy alongside Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah. Girls Trip follows a group of four friends seeking to reconnect with a getaway to New Orleans to attend the Essence Music Festival. Girls Trip was a breakout role for Haddish, with the success of the film launching her into superstardom.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that a second Girls Trip was in the works when producer Will Packer teased the sequel during a March appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.
“We actually are looking at doing an exotic locale — I can’t reveal it right now, but I do have a script for the first time,” Packer revealed. “Girls Trip is happening. Girls Trip 2. Bringing back all the ladies. And we’re going to add maybe some new ladies.”
While fans have to wait a little longer to see the four women reconnect on screen, Haddish recently enjoyed her own getaway to Africa with close friends. The vacation serves as the subject of her new Peacock series, Tiffany Haddish Goes Off, which premieres on Thursday, November 13. The comedian shared that the idea came from Jeff Jenkins Productions and she was on board.
“We got together. We all had ideas. We shot them all out there, and that was one of theirs, and I liked it,” she told Us. “And I was like, ‘Yeah, let’s see if my friends want to go, because I’ve been telling them for years, we [are] going all together somewhere. So that would be great.’”
Haddish added that since her friends have been by her side for quite some time she wanted to treat them to an experience of a lifetime.
“They deserve a trip like that because they’ve been good friends all these years. I think your friends deserve awards too,” she explained. “Give them some kind of a treat for being a good friend, like, they’ve been great friends.”
Haddish told Us that her inner circle has been by her side since her early teen years.
“In my mind, if we have been growing in the same environment, learning the same kind of stuff, and then being apart from each other, being in different environments in different parts of the country, and still being able to support each other, why wouldn’t I take these people with me?” she reflected. “We’ve been on trips and done some crazy adventures our whole lives now, maybe not as far as Africa, yeah, but our whole lives we’ve done and been [to] some places. We’ve done some things. Like, why not? Why not these girls? Why would I take my newer friends? They haven’t even earned it.”
Tiffany Haddish Goes Off premieres on Peacock on November 13.
