An Ohio TikTok mom of three died after undergoing a “mommy makeover” tummy tuck procedure that took a tragic turn.
Rachel Tussey described herself as “Over 40 & fabulous” to her more than 27,000 TikTok followers — and had been using her platform to share her fears, excitement, and preparations in the lead up to her cosmetic surgery.
Tussey, 47, underwent an abdominoplasty surgery Feb. 25, telling her followers it was a procedure she had “waited a really long time for.”
“I’m in good hands. I know God’s got my back. Let’s do this,” an enthusiastic Tussey dressed in a hospital gown said in her last video, posted just hours before surgery, alongside the caption #midlifeglowup and #mommymakeover.
Despite Rachel’s excitement and confidence in the procedure, things quickly turned into a nightmare for her family, according to an emotional TikTok update posted by her husband, Jeremy Tussey.
While the surgery itself was successful, her husband said Tussey quickly took a turn for the worse, Cincinnati.com reported.
She later became unresponsive, her husband said.
Despite being administered Narcan, efforts to bring her back to consciousness failed and Tussey was taken to Bethesda North Hospital where she was put on a ventilator, according to the outlet.
Jeremy told her followers that he believes the dose of pain killers given to his wife at the surgery center was too high — but made a point to praise the care she received at the hospital.
“To me, it looks like incompetency. Somebody dropped the ball here,” the grieving husband said. “Somebody dropped the ball and killed my wife.”
According to Jeremy, his wife was without oxygen for more than six minutes before he got the heart-breaking news that she was brain dead.
He then took her off life support, according to a GoFundMe.
The fundraising page described Tussey as being “truly full of life” who “cherished her family deeply.”
“[Rachel] lived as an example of what community and compassion should look like,” it added.
