Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce is set to meet with the team to discuss his future, as speculation about his potential retirement has ramped up after the 2025 season.

During his last two games of the season, it seemed Kelce might retire after a challenging year for him and the team, which failed to make the postseason.

Kelce is engaged to Taylor Swift, and at 36, he is quite old in football terms, having battled injuries and taken a good amount of damage during his career.

However, the Chiefs are perennial Super Bowl contenders, and his relationship with head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes seemingly means a lot to the tight end, keeping him entranced in the sport.

Despite the media speculating that Kelce was calling it quits, Kelce himself never made an announcement or revealed a decision. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapport, however, the player and team will discuss his future to settle it heading into the season.

“A year ago, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was set to play in the Super Bowl, knowing he would spend the next few weeks pondering his future. Of course, he eventually returned,” Rapport wrote in a story on NFL.com.

“The perennial Pro Bowler, who had a resurgent 2025 to reassert his place among the game’s best despite being 36 years old, has not made a firm decision on his future. However, he has been in touch with his team about a potential return and Kansas City wants him back, sources say.

“The plan is to reconvene after the Super Bowl to finalize a plan that works for both parties.”

Will Travis Kelce come back for the 2026 season?

Although he has not confirmed his choice for 2026, hints suggest a return to the gridiron. Namely, during an episode of New Heights, Kelce celebrated the return of offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

“I can’t wait to see him back in the building, man,” Kelce said. “He’s one of my favorite coaches of all time, one of my favorite people of all time. I’ve had so many unbelievable growing moments under him as a player, as a person, and I just love the guy.”

It is far from a done deal, but considering the sour note that his season ended on, Kelce could look for one year on the breach alongside Reid and Mahomes.
