President Donald Trump’s approval rating with women is rising, a new poll from The Economist and YouGov released on Tuesday shows.
Newsweek reached out to political analysts via email for additional comment.
Why It Matters
Trump’s standing with women voters is a potentially critical factor as the U.S. approaches the 2026 midterm elections. Historically, Trump’s approval ratings among women have lagged behind those of male voters, reflecting persistent gender gaps in party support and possible policy preferences. Shifts in this demographic are especially important given their potential influence in swing states and closely contested districts.
Changes in approval ratings offer possible insight into the effectiveness of Trump’s recent policy moves and messaging aimed at the economy, trade and immigration—each playing a pivotal role in the current political landscape.
What To Know
In the poll, Trump’s approval rating with women is 38 percent. His overall approval rating is 41 percent, with a disapproval rating of 55 percent.
The poll surveyed 1,530 U.S. adults from December 5 to December 8 and has a margin of error of 3.4 percent.
The president’s approval rating has been lower than 38 percent with women for weeks, with the last time Trump landing the mark or higher being in a survey conducted from October 10 to October 13. In a poll last week, the president’s approval rating with the group was 33 percent and 31 percent the week before that.
The broader polling environment has remained challenging for Trump. The president saw new lows amid his second term in office, but as of late his overall approval rating seems to be getting a boost. While his approval among women remains under 40 percent, the recent uptick comes amid policy controversies and polling swings.
What People Are Saying
Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law, on X in October: “The ‘experts’ have been underestimating @realDonaldTrump since 1985 – he knew then and he proved today why he is the ultimate deal maker. I believe he will leave office with the highest approval rating of any modern president…the first 9.5 months were just the beginning”
CNN Chief Data Analyst Harry Enten, on X earlier this month: “Gallup’s poll = disaster for Trump. Nixon’s the only prez with a worse net approval at this point in a 2nd term than him. Trump must break history for the GOP to keep House control in 2026. No 2nd term pres’ net approval rose more than 5 pts from this pt through the midterms.”
What Happens Next
Observers will likely closely monitor whether Trump’s improved approval rating among women persists as policy debates and campaign efforts continue ahead of the 2026 midterms.
