It was time that really could have been better spent.
President Trump shared his regrets about precious minutes he spent dining at the White House with comedian Bill Maher, host of HBO’s “Real Time,” during an event organized by singer Kid Rock back in April.
He wrote about the dinner in a 495-word post on his Truth Social site Saturday, calling it a “total waste of time.”
“Sometimes in life you waste time! T.V. Host Bill Maher asked to have dinner with me through one of his friends, also a friend of mine, and I agreed,” Trump recalled, hours after speaking about “regime change” in Iran and a second aircraft carrier being dispatched to the Middle East.
“He came into the famed Oval Office much different than I thought he would be. He was extremely nervous, had ZERO confidence in himself and, to soothe his nerves, immediately, within seconds, asked for a ‘Vodka Tonic,’” the president posted.
“He said to me, ‘I’ve never felt like this before, I’m actually scared.’ In one respect, it was somewhat endearing!” Trump began.
It was a “great dinner,” Trump wrote, noting that for the host’s first show after their meeting, Maher was “very respectful.”
“But then I noticed his show started to devolve into the same old story — Very boring, ANTI TRUMP, no mention of the PERFECT Border, Lowest Crime in 125 years, the Mass Removal of Stone Cold Criminals, the 50,000 DOW, the 7,000 S&P (Both Highest Ever!), Least Number of Murders since 1900, Venezuela, ‘Midnight Hammer,’ Soleimani DEAD, al-Baghdadi DEAD, Lowest Inflation in YEARS (1.2% for last three months!), the Rebuilding of our Military, Eight War Stoppages, and on, and on, and on!”
Trump’s post came after Maher referenced the dinner in an interview with Elex Michaelson that aired on CNN international and was posted on Facebook.
Maher slammed people who stopped watching his show after the dinner as “idiots.”
“They’re always asking the wrong question, which is: How dare you have dinner with Donald Trump,” Maher said. “The question should always have been what did I say after I had dinner with Donald Trump.”
Maher said if he had been “seduced by that dinner and stopped tearing him a new one every week … then you would have a case. That didn’t happen!”
He has used his show to take regular dings at Trump.
Last week Maher hosted former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who said Republicans regularly criticize Trump behind his back. And Maher recently roasted singer Billie Eilish for “virtue signaling” during her Grammys speech, in which she declared, “there are no illegals on stolen land.”
Trump called Maher a “LIGHTWEIGHT” and mocked his ratings.
“Bill continues to suffer from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS!), and there is nothing that will ever be done to cure him of this very serious disease. Thank you for your attention to this minor matter!” he concluded, signing it: “President DJT.”
