Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Amanda Rishworth says the Albanese government would consider any request to deploy Australian troops to Ukraine in the event of a peace deal, after US President Donald Trump didn’t rule out sending US troops to prevent any future conflict.
Trump signalled in talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and a high-powered European delegation at the White House hours ago that he would provide security guarantees for Ukraine as part of a peace deal, but stopped short of guaranteeing the deployment of US troops.

He also noted that an agreement would only be struck following a three-way meeting involving him, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Rishworth labelled the discussions an “important step” to achieving an end to the war and praised US and European leaders for their support of Ukraine, adding that the government would “consider any request” as part of a global response to the conflict.
“They are really involved in the peace discussions … we welcome any step that is to the end of the war in Ukraine,” Rishworth told Nine’s Today.
“If there is a global response, we consider any request. It would go through the normal processes, go through cabinet.”
