The North Carolina Tar Heels have just one returning player who played meaningful minutes during the 2024-25 college basketball season: Seth Trimble.

Trimble, a senior guard for Hubert Davis’ squad, played an integral role in the Tar Heels’ first two wins of the 2025-26 season — averaging 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

Trimble put forth an outstanding defensive effort in North Carolina’s win over the Kansas Jayhawks on Friday night, effectively guarding freshman phenom Darryn Peterson.

Unfortunately for the Tar Heels, they’ll be without their veteran guard for the foreseeable future.

On Sunday evening, the North Carolina basketball program announced that Trimble suffered a broken bone in his left forearm during team workout. He’s set to undergo surgery sometime this week.

“Senior captain Seth Trimble suffered a broken bone in his left forearm in a team workout Sunday afternoon. He will undergo surgery this week. The exact length of his absence will be better known following the surgery,” the team wrote in its announcement.

Davis addressed the loss of his longest-tenured player in an official statement.

The Tar Heels’ head coach confirmed that Trimble will be able to return to the court at some point this season.

“So sad for Seth,” Davis said. “He’s such a great kid and teammate and has worked so hard for his senior year. He loves being a Tar Heel and we love him. The good news is he will be back at some point this year, and I know he will continue to be a great leader for us until he can get back in the lineup.”

UNC is 2-0 following season opening wins over Central Arkansas and Kansas. Trimble was the Tar Heels’ third-leading scorer over this two-game span, trailing only five-star freshman Caleb Wilson (23.0 ppg) and 7-foot transfer Henri Veesaar (17.0 ppg).

Without Trimble, North Carolina will look to continue its unbeaten season in a matchup against the Radford Highlanders on Tuesday night.
