A 25-year-old from the U.K. has described how she confronted her partner after discovering he was secretly using a dating app.
In a viral video with more than 3.5 million views on TikTok, Katie Allen shared what she did when she discovered her partner of a year and a half was secretly on the dating app Hinge.
Allen’s discovery began when a gym friend approached her with screenshots of a Hinge profile that unmistakably belonged to her partner. His profile featured a dad joke prompt: “What do you call a fake noodle?”
Rather than confronting him outright, Katie decided to subtly call him out. She ignored his previous texts and instead sent him a message to ask: “What do you call a fake noodle then?” True to form, he responded with the punchline: “An impasta.”
Allen shared the exchange on TikTok, with the caption: “When he thinks he can sneak around using dating apps without me knowing but I replied to his prompt on Hinge.” The video has since amassed over 3.2 million views, with users praising her quick wit and offering support.
“For context, we had been seeing each other for about a year and a half,” Allen told Newsweek. “We weren’t officially boyfriend and girlfriend, but I’d only ever been with him during that time, and he never mentioned seeing anyone else. I put a lot of trust in him.”
Suspicions were raised when mutual friends hinted he might be seeing others, but Allen dismissed this, until her gym friend showed her the Hinge screenshots and she couldn’t ignore the truth.
“At the time, I felt angry and disappointed in both him and myself,” Allen said. “I wanted to confront him in a way that showed I knew, without being too direct. That’s when I sent the dad joke message.”
Allen’s experience isn’t unique. A 2024 survey found that 93 percent of Gen Z (aged under 27) have been involved in a cheating relationship, higher than the general population average of 83 percent.
After she revealed she knew about his Hinge profile, he claimed it was a mistake. But Allen wasn’t convinced, especially after friends noticed his Instagram following had recently grown, mostly with local women.
On TikTok, people rushed to praise her for the unusual confrontation. “Absolutely insane. You’re so gorgeous as well. Not all men are bad, I promise,” said one viewer.
Another TikToker wrote: “The way my jaw DROPPED at the third slide—okay pop off.”
“You are an ICON for this,” agreed another.
Despite some critics accusing Katie of being on Hinge herself, she clarified the screenshots came from a friend. “Out of respect, I never shared his identity,” she said.
As the video gained more attention, Allen said that the TikTok response helped her to move on. “I kept thinking, ‘What would the girls from TikTok say if I went back to him?’ That’s a big reason why I didn’t.”
