A woman has died in a ferocious blaze that destroyed a townhouse in Melbourne’s west.
Fire crews were called to Dover Street in Truganina at 2.14am on Thursday and found a three-storey townhouse engulfed in fire.
In a statement, Fire Rescue Victoria said two occupants were initially unaccounted for. Firefighters donned protective equipment to search the property but were restricted by the intensity of the fire.
Police later said a female occupant, who is yet to be formally identified, had died at the scene.
“The three-storey townhouse has been completely destroyed,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
“A crime scene has been established and an arson chemist will attend the scene this morning.”
FRV said 13 firefighting appliances responded to the blaze. It was deemed under control at 4.32am.
“At least one neighbouring property was evacuated as a precaution,” a spokesperson said.
