A woman visiting an amusement park found herself captivated by a “man” she wanted to give her contact details, only to realize he was a robot.
Katie Boggs (@katieboggs_) shared hysterical footage of the handsome robot on TikTok, where it racked up 2.1 million likes and an impressive 7.7 million views.
“If you wanna feel better about yourself just remember I was gonna ask for this guy’s Instagram and then I got closer and realized he’s a robot,” she wrote as the text overlay.
The video features a selfie of Boggs alongside the robot man, who was stationed at PortaAventura World amusement park in Tarragona, Spain.
The “man” sported a white shirt, brown leather gilet, and blue scarf, moving in a mechanical fashion—presumably as part of a set within the amusement park.
PortaAventura World, one of Europe’s largest theme parks, is known for its immersive attractions that often incorporate technology to create life-like characters and experiences.
“Not expecting that from him,” she captioned the video.
This video highlights the advancement of humanoid robots, which are designed to closely resemble human appearance and behavior.
These robots are being developed for various uses, from customer service to companionship, as they can mimic human gestures, facial expressions, and even speech.
With sophisticated technology, experts suggest that future robots may be able to foster human-like connections.
Some researchers propose that humans could even develop meaningful, emotionally rewarding relationships with robots, and humans have the capacity to develop feelings for the machines.
TikTok users were amused by the clip, with many comparing the robot to fictional characters.
Several noted that the robot bore a resemblance to Nathan Drake, the famous protagonist from the Uncharted video game series known for his rugged looks and daring adventures.
“That’s Nathan Drake and he’s married,” joked one user.
Others thought the robot resembled Bryan Dechart, the actor who played the android Connor in the game Detroit: Become Human, a popular character for his lifelike portrayal of artificial intelligence in a near-future setting.
“Not me thinking it was Bryan Dechart,” commented another.
Many users shared in Boggs’s admiration for the robot’s looks.
“Ok but they had no business making him that fine,” remarked Lily Tran.
“Ask if you can take it as a souvenir,” suggested another viewer.
“I still want his number,” quipped Jasper Row.
