A four-year-old boy has died after being pulled from a burning home just days before Christmas.

Emergency services were called to the house on Carnoustie Gardens in Meadow Springs just before 2pm on Sunday as it went up in flames.

The young boy was found unresponsive inside and was taken by ambulance to Peel Health Campus, but could not be revived.

Two other children, believed to be the boy’s siblings, were also taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services district officer Andrew Seuren said the house was completely engulfed in flames, the roof had collapsed, and every room had been burnt.

“Today was a very challenging day with the temperatures, the crews being in near 40 degrees, so it’s quite hot, and then faced with a house fire with flames coming through the roof, it was challenging conditions for them,” he said.

Police don’t believe the fire was suspicious, and specialist investigators from the arson squad will study the scene to further investigate and prepare a report for the coroner.

Neighbour Sarah Benton said she saw black smoke billowing from the house.

“It’s so close to Christmas, and it’s not even the home, it’s just the safety, and someone’s poor baby,” she said.
