Close friend Paul Warren has begun his eulogy.
“Today, we gather with the state of NSW to pay tribute to an Australian icon, a man who touched the lives of countless Australians from all walks of life, from truckies and jackaroos to prime ministers,” Warren says. “At his peak, he had 2 million listeners.”

Warren recalls Laws’ early life, from his birth in Papua New Guinea on August 8, 1935, to two bouts of polio, as a child and a young man.
“John never let that stop him. He fought back, rebuilt. And that same determination and resilience that carried him through everything he did in life,” Warren said.
