The Los Angeles Lakers secured a thrilling 112-108 overtime victory over the Houston Rockets on Friday to take a commanding 3-0 series lead, all while still missing both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves who remain out with injuries.
L.A. has gotten production from several areas, but at the center of it all has been 41-year-old LeBron James who not only hit the game-tying three on Friday night, but recorded 29 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and three steals in the contest.
One of those assists came in the second quarter on an alley-oop pass to his son, Bronny James, who caught it and had a smooth reverse layup in the air, which came not long after he hit a three-pointer stringing together 10 straight points that were scored by the father and son duo.
Bronny is still developing and finding his role as an NBA player, but his growth has been clear. He’s remained in the rotation this postseason due to the team’s injuries, and on Friday night, his impact was felt.
After the game, head coach JJ Redick opened up about Bronny’s role and development, pointing to a conversation he had with LeBron James when the team was preparing to draft his son in 2024.
“When we drafted Bronny, LeBron and I had one conversation very early on — that I was going to coach Bronny. I was not going to coach LeBron’s son. That’s what he wanted,” Redick revealed.
“As a staff, we’ve been able to pour into Bronny, and we’re really excited with his growth. I know Bron, as a father, is super proud of the growth Bronny’s had over the last two years, and last night was a really cool moment.”
Redick is in just his second season as head coach of the Lakers, and he’s continued to do a tremendous job. This most recent stretch, without two of the team’s best players, has been by far his most impressive.
Game 4 is set for Sunday night at 9:30 p.m. ET, with the Lakers just one win away from advancing to the second round.
