The Los Angeles Lakers stumbled out of the NBA All-Star break, dropping three of their first four games. However, they’ve since responded with back-to-back blowout victories over the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings to improve to 36-24 on the season.
Leading the way in both wins was 41-year-old LeBron James, who recorded 22 points, nine assists and seven rebounds against Golden State before following it up with 24 points versus Sacramento.
During Sunday night’s game against the Kings, the Lakers announced after one of James’ assists that he had officially moved into the top five all-time in assists in franchise history.
“Top fiiiiive in Laker diiiiimes,” the team posted on social media.

James passed Lakers legend Michael Cooper on the franchise’s all-time assists list, though he still trails Norm Nixon, Jerry West, Kobe Bryant and, as expected, Magic Johnson — a mark that likely won’t be touched anytime soon in Los Angeles.
For James to continue cementing his legacy like this is remarkable, especially considering he only joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018. It came just one night after he joined Bryant as the only Lakers players to surpass 1,000 made 3-pointers — another milestone he’s achieved during his eight season with the organization.
James’ time in L.A. could naturally be nearing its end, as he is set to enter unrestricted free agency this offseason and has acknowledged that he understands his NBA career is approaching its conclusion — whether that comes at the end of this season or the next.
Despite that reality, James has continued to produce at a high level. He is currently averaging 21.6 points, 7.0 assists and 5.6 rebounds across 42 games this season.
