Hail has been recorded in Brisbane’s south late Friday afternoon, however the Bureau of Meteorology has cancelled a severe storm warning as of 7.36pm.
A storm was moving west towards the city, with large hail and damaging winds forecast for Brisbane and parts of south-east Queensland. Despite the downgraded warning, more rain and even thunderstorms are still possible in the region.
Hail stones about two centimetres wide were reported by BOM in Laidley, south-west of Brisbane, about 4pm this afternoon.

Later, about 5.50pm, hail stones two to three centimetres in width were recorded in Moorooka in Brisbane’s south. Hail was also reported in the south-west suburb of Oxley.
Brisbane, Logan and Redland council areas could have been impacted by the initial storm warning, the bureau said. However, rain is likely to persist.
“[Two centimetres] is not small, but it’s not giant,” Morgan Pumpa from BOM said.
“The way of this thunderstorm is … the chance of it remaining over one area for a really, really, really long time and leading to extreme damage isn’t huge.

“It’s more concern about some of the driving conditions more than an impact on livelihoods or lives, but just something for people to think about when they’re heading out.”
The bureau still advises to drive slowly if road transport is required and avoid any flooded areas.
