A man has been charged with murder after his father was found dead with significant burns in the driveway of his western Sydney home.

Emergency services were called to Wargon Crescent, Glenmore Park, about 12.50am on Thursday, when the body of the man, believed to be aged 64, was found.

An accelerant is believed to have been used in the incident and the front door of the home had been forced open. Firefighters hosed down a small fire outside the house.

The man’s 36-year-old son was arrested in a car on Parkes Avenue, Werrington, about 6.45am.

He was treated for minor injuries to his hands and feet before being taken to Nepean Hospital under police guard. After his release from hospital, he was charged with domestic violence-related murder and refused police bail, and is due to face Penrith Local Court on Friday.

NSW Police Superintendent Trent King said the man had co-operated with police during his arrest. His car and the surrounding scene were being examined.

Detectives have appealed for CCTV or dashcam footage from around the Glenmore Park property as they continue investigating the “distressing” scene.

“And not a normal scene for anybody to be confronted with, particularly the extent of the injuries to our victim,” King said.

The man who died had “significant burns” among his numerous injuries.

“There appears to have been an altercation between the two parties,” King said.

“Until we have forensic examinations of the deceased, [it’s] very difficult to indicate what the cause of death was.”
