The new Adelaide Street bus and Metro tunnel will take its first services in just four weeks — and we’re underground to show you what it looks like.

A community open day will be held on Wednesday, September 24, during the school holidays, with members of the public able to walk through the underground busway before services start travelling through from Monday, September 29.
The day will be held from 10.30am to 2pm, with seven sessions, and will include a live string ensemble, Paradiso Strings. Registration is essential and open now. It will be the only opportunity to experience the tunnel before it opens as a busway.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the tunnel would take almost 1400 bus and Metro services underground daily, easing congestion and freeing up space on city streets.
There have already been more than 3.4 million trips on Brisbane Metro, proving people love this modern, reliable and connected way of moving around our city.
Late last month, 10 weekends of testing in the Adelaide Street tunnel, including heat and smoke tests to check control systems, were completed.
