William Golding’ Lord of the Flies novel has already been adapted for the screen a couple of times, and now there’s a new iteration. A four-part limited series lands on Netflix on May 4.
The new series, developed for television by Jack Thorne, is about a group of young schoolboys who become stranded on a deserted island and their attempt to govern themselves. Thorne also co-created Adolescence, another story with themes of young men confronting their worst impulses, anger and violent tendencies. This new interpretation of the material may seem more relevant now than it was when the book came out in 1954. The show features a cast primarily of unknown actors, with Rory Kinnear and Daniel Mays also appearing.
