Teenager Jarrod Noll was taken into custody in West Virginia on Saturday, December 27, after he allegedly shot his parents on the day after Christmas in their family’s Pennsylvania home, killing his mother and injuring his father.
Noll, 18, has been charged with homicide and attempted homicide in connection with the Boxing Day shooting. It is not currently clear if he has entered a plea or obtained legal representation.
Pennsylvania State Police were called to the family’s home in Freeport Township around 2 p.m. on Friday, December 26. The residence is located in Greene County, Pennsylvania, which is not far from the West Virginia border.
Once police arrived at the home, authorities discovered that Noll’s parents were injured and suffering from obvious gunshot wounds, according to a press release from the Greene County-based Pennsylvania State Police Investigating Homicide and Attempted Homicide department. Both of the parents were transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment, with his mother initially listed in critical condition.
Noll’s mother was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the outlet. Meanwhile, his father was released from the hospital in stable condition.
Authorities soon launched a manhunt for Noll, who fled the home on foot after he allegedly shot both of his parents. Police considered him to be armed and dangerous after they conducted an “extensive search” of the area near the crime scene.
“We used tracking dogs, we used helicopters, and we used police on foot searching rough terrain,” Pennsylvania State Police Sergeant Richard Sizer said of the search, according to CBS News. “Obviously, when you have someone on the run with a homicide warrant, on the run with a gun, it is a huge danger to the community.”
Authorities said that there was poor cell service as they looked for Noll on the night of December 26, which made their search more difficult. While police decided to pick up the search the following morning, and the manhunt ended successfully when Noll was captured on Saturday by West Virginia State Police without incident.
Noll is currently being held in police custody in West Virginia, and he is expected to be extradited to Pennsylvania, according to the outlet.
“The fire departments here have been great, the West Virginia State Police, Pennsylvania State Police, multiple barracks within Troop B, have been outstanding, and their hard work has put this to an end,” Sizer said.
Not much is known about the motive for the shooting or what may have led to the violent incident. However, Pennsylvania State Police troopers in Waynesburg confirmed in an X post that they believe the shooting was an “isolated incident” and “there is no ongoing threat to the public.”
Officials did confirm that Noll’s younger siblings were home at the time of the shooting, per CBS News. Those children are now in the custody of a family member following their mom’s death.
The West Virginia State Police did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment.
