The Boston Red Sox had a busy offseason, replacing Alex Bregman with Caleb Durbin and Willson Contreras and also adding pieces such as Ranger Suarez and Sonny Gray to their roster. They’ll look to bounce back from their loss in the American League Wild Card Series last October.
They have a few players away for the World Baseball Classic. Most notably, outfielder Jarren Duran was playing for Team Mexico.
However, Mexico has been eliminated. Now, Duran is expected to be back in camp on Saturday, per the Red Sox’s skipper.
“(Alex) Cora said Duran will be back in camp on Saturday,” Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reported on X.
Duran is a former All-Star and a key building block for the Red Sox. He hit .256/.332/.442 with 16 home runs, 84 RBI, 24 stolen bases and .774 OPS while also posting a 4.7 WAR in 2025. He performed well in the WBC, but it wasn’t enough to get Mexico out of pool play and into the tournament.
But with Mexico out, now is the time for Duran to return to Red Sox’s camp and prepare for the upcoming season. They are going to need a big year out of Duran after the loss of Bregman.
He could be an X-factor for a team looking to make a deeper run in the postseason and bounce back from last year’s disappointment. Now, he’s back in camp and ready to start the season with the Red Sox.
It will be interesting to see what kind of season he’ll have in 2026.
