Ryan Paevey is bringing back the jolly this holiday season with Great American Media’s The Ornament Library.
“It’s a really really charming story. I really like it,” Paevey, 41, exclusively told Us of the upcoming Christmas movie premiering on Great American Pure Flix, before debuting on Great American Family and GFAM+. “There’s some good comedic wit in there. I like the treasure hunt element. The mystery one-on-one element to it a little bit.”
In the film, Paevey plays a journalist named Noah Conrad, whose “column is at risk of being hacked” before he is sent to cover a library fundraiser as a “human interest piece.”
Paevey teased that once he is on scene and spending time with librarian Alice Montgomery (Merritt Patterson), “It’s starting to feel a little bit like this might not be enough human interest to save my career, but there’s some sparks, shall we say?”
Just when they think there isn’t much to the story, Noah and Alice stumble upon a hidden door that leads to an ornament library started by a local man after his wife died. (There are ornaments of all kinds donated by townspeople, some with special notes or inscriptions.)
While the discovery of the library is exciting, Paevey told Us it’s the disappearance of the tradition that pulls both Noah and Alice into their own quest before Christmas.
“We begin to return some of these ornaments to their original owners. We gather some more of the story. We learn more about [the man who started it]. We track him down,” the actor, who took a step back from Hollywood in 2024, said of what transpires in the story line. “All kinds of adventures and hijinks ensue, and I feel like I’ve got this story that’s going to not only help Alice, the fundraiser of the library, but also maybe save my career.”
Paevey noted that fans will have to tune in to see whether Noah’s career is safe — and how his relationship with Alice plays out.
But before Great American Media fans will also see Paevey in The Ornament Library, they can watch him in the network’s Christmas at Moose Lake.
“It’s another one of those [movies where] I grew up in a small town. She grew up in a small town,” Paevey told Us of Christmas at Moose Lake’s premise. “[There’s] world famous hot chocolate. My dad runs the shop. There’s a lot of sweet holiday memories.”
The actor, who plays Sean in the film alongside Britt Robertson’s Alyssa, noted that there’s a “touch of melancholy” to the movie after Alyssa’s mom dies and her dad starts to move on.
“Then there’s little old me who’s been [in town] for forever. I always seem to show up at the right place at the right time,” Paevey teased. “[There’s a] little Christmas tree farm tie-in, little lumberjack tie-in. Dad makes hot chocolate. It was a really really sweet film.”
When comparing the two tales, Paevey said Christmas at Moose Lake is “a more traditional holiday film structure,” while The Ornament Library has “a bit of a treasure hunt element to it.”
Christmas at Moose Lake premieres on Great American Pure Flix Thursday, November 19, before debuting on Great American Family and GFAM+ Saturday, November 21.
The Ornament Library premieres first on Great American Pure Flix Thursday, December 3, and then on Great American Family and GFAM+ on Saturday, December 5.
