A third Burning Man attendee has died during the festival’s 40th anniversary, officials confirmed.
The person, who has not been publicly identified, died while being rushed to a hospital in Reno — about 120 miles away from the festival grounds in the Black Rock Desert, KRX12 reported.
“Although we average 1 death a year at the Festival, we have had two so far this year within the confines of the Festival and I have received information regarding a third who died in transit to a hospital in Reno,” Jerry Allen, Pershing County sheriff and coroner, told NBC News in a statement.
The person’s cause of death was not immediately clear.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
