Thousands of people have been urged to stay inside across parts of Arizona and Georgia on Saturday amid concerns over high air pollution, according to the Environmental Protection Agency’s AirNow map.
The map shows a large area of “unhealthy” ozone and fine particle pollution (PM2.5) covering Tucson, Arizona, and spreading into the San Carlos Reservation as of 7.25 a.m. ET.
An area of “unhealthy” air pollution is also present in Georgia, encompassing the city of Valdosta.
When air quality reaches the “unhealthy” category, the EPA advises that sensitive groups – including children, older adults, and those with certain medical conditions – avoid long or intense outdoor activities, and consider moving them indoors.
The rest of the population in affected areas is advised to reduce long or intense activities and take more breaks during outdoor activities.
This is a developing story. More to follow.
