WNBA star DiJonai Carrington is calling out her ex-girlfriend and former teammate, NaLyssa Smith, for allegedly cheating on her during their relationship.
“Since mfs wanna be funny today ima be hilarious!” Carrington, 28, wrote via Threads on Sunday, July 26. “Yes, Nalyssa cheated on me with Deja Kelly and Aaliyah Nye +++ many more.”
Carrington and Smith, 25, first began dating as teammates at Baylor University in 2020 and remained together through their early WNBA careers, as teammates for the Dallas Wings and as members of separate teams.
Carrington told reporters in November 2025 that the two were “good, but we’re not together anymore.
“It was on good terms,” she added. “We just grew in different directions.”
Smith was traded to the Las Vegas Aces midway through last season, while Carrington was dealt to the Minnesota Lynx.
The two players that Carrington accused Smith of cheating on her with, Kelly, 24, and Nye, 23, both spent time with the Aces last season. Kelly signed a training camp contract with Las Vegas last year but was waived in May, while Nye played the full season for the Aces before the Toronto Tempo chose her in the 2026 expansion draft. The Atlanta Dream claimed her off waivers in May.
Smith responded publicly to the allegations during a live stream on Sunday evening.
“Whether she cheated on me and I cheated on her, why are we bringing that to the internet a year later when nobody did anything to anybody?” she asked. “To bring it to the Internet a year later, is crazy. Just for fun? That’s ridiculous. Especially when you’re in a happy, healthy relationship. I would never in my life do that to nobody.”
Neither Kelly nor Nye has addressed Carrington’s comments.
Carrington is now rumored to be dating teammate Jackie Young, but neither has confirmed the status of their relationship.
The timing of Carrington’s post is especially intriguing. The WNBA was off over the weekend, with its top players converging on Chicago for All-Star Weekend. Play will resume on Tuesday, July 28, and Carrington’s Sky will face Nye, Smith and the Aces on Saturday, August 1.
This is not the first time this season that player relationships have made headlines in the WNBA.
Wings star Paige Bueckers seemed to publicly reveal last year that she was dating former UConn teammate Azzi Fudd. When the Wings drafted Fudd No.1 overall in the 2026 draft, media and fans began asking questions about the status of their relationship. Bueckers, 24, addressed the situation publicly during the preseason.
“Quite frankly, I believe me and Azzi’s personal relationship is nobody’s business but our own,” she said in a press conference. “And what we choose to share is completely up to us. As media members, I understand you guys have a job to do and you guys have to ask questions about the basketball aspect of it. So that’s what I will be addressing today.”
