It’s fair to say a new slew of popular baby names will be emerging from last night’s history-making win.
Amidst the cheers and rowdy celebrations last night, there was also a collective sigh of relief across New York City as the Knicks clawed their way back to greatness, earning themselves the NBA championship title.
While New Yorkers across the five boroughs spilled out of crowded bars onto city streets after Saturday night’s 94-90 win, some die-hard fans, who had been waiting a long time for this historic moment, celebrated in a completely different way — from a hospital room, with their newborn babies named after Knicks MVPs.
One Upper West Side couple introduced their baby girl to the world during last night’s nail-biting finish and documented the special moment on TikTok.
“Babe, what are we going to name her?” the new mama-to-be asks from behind the camera, filming her proud hubby holding their little bundle of joy.
“For starters, king of all names, Jalen or maybe Brunsina. Hart, as is near and dear. Kat, Anunoby, OG or Ogugua, actually. I don’t know, Ogugua has really been growing on me,” the proud dad jokingly told his wife as he held his little swaddled newborn, referencing the names of Knicks superstars such as Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and OG Anunoby.
“Backup names, this one has been putting it all out there — Alvarado, Mikal, Clarkson, McBride, Robinson… can’t go wrong with any of them,” he continued.
Although The Post reached out to the happy couple for comment, it’s unknown what they named their little addition. Although they did jokingly write in the caption of their video, “Starting her life at 6 lbs 14 ounces is Jalen Brunsina Hart Bridges OG Kat Alvarado Shamet Robinson McBride Clarkson.”
Commenters jumped in on the fanfare, suggesting other Knicks-inspired baby names such as “Victoria (for victory), Madison (msg), Dublin (for the dub), her nickname will be Champ,” while others hinted at “Jailyn Hart” and “Madison Hart.”
Earlier in the night, the Knicks superfans also showed how the hospital where they were giving birth made little Knicks hats with bows for any babes born Saturday night. “They don’t do this all the time; it’s because of this moment in time,” the new dad explained in the video.
Plenty of other couples hinted at naming their babies after Knickerbockers, such as this couple who wrote in overlay text on a video of them celebrating last night: “Guess we have to name our daughter Jaleny Brunsina Anna Noby now.”
In an Instagram story posted by @blaaakkkke last night, a microphone was held up to a pregnant woman’s belly as cheers of “Go Knicks!” were heard in the background.
The creator filming asked the woman, “What’s her name?” referencing the unborn baby girl, to which she responded with a smile, “Jalen.”
Another devoted Knicks fan was ahead of her time, naming her little tot after Brunson way before the team became champions.
“Go, New York!!! Jalen’s first year born with a Knicks championship under his belt 26’! We knew naming him after the newest Knicks legend was a good decision!!! Jalen Brunson!!!!” the excited mom wrote in the caption of her video.
