A Queensland man has been arrested and charged with murder and torture following an investigation into the death of a four-month-old baby more than two years ago.

Police confirmed the arrest of the 22-year-old on Sunday, in relation to the baby boy’s death in Bundaberg West, north of Brisbane, March 2024.

Police said in a statement that at 5.18pm on February 26, 2024, a baby boy was taken to Bundaberg Hospital before being airlifted to the Queensland Children’s Hospital the next day.

He died in hospital a week later on March 3, 2024.

The Bundaberg Child Protection and Investigation Unit and specialist police from Crime and Intelligence Command’s Child Trauma Unit launched an investigation into the baby’s death.

The Bundaberg West (now Kalkie) man been charged with one count each of murder (domestic violence) and torture (domestic violence), police said, and investigations are ongoing.

He is expected to appear in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday.
