Two men and a woman have been charged with the alleged murder of a Sydney man who fell to his death from the balcony of his apartment in the city’s north-west suburbs on Sunday.

The 44-year-old was declared dead by paramedics shortly after 2.40am on Sunday, after receiving reports of shouting from the balcony of a unit complex on Crane Road, Castle Hill. He was found in a garden outside the apartment building, suffering significant injuries from the fall.

On Wednesday, detectives investigating the death under Strike Force Sunbach arrested a 38-year-old man at Castle Hill Police Station, where he was charged with murder. In an initial appearance at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday, the man was refused bail. He is due to appear before the court again on Friday.

Police executed a search warrant at a home in Woolloomooloo on Thursday afternoon, arresting a 30-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman before transferring the pair to Kings Cross Police Station, where they were both charged with murder. Both remained in police custody on Thursday, ahead of respective bail hearings on Friday.

Detectives are continuing investigations under Strike Force Sunbach, and have not ruled out making further arrests or laying additional charges on the crew alleged to have murdered the man.

Following the man’s death, an extended police presence remained at the Castle Hill address for more than 12 hours, while the local community came to terms with the incident.

One neighbour who asked not to be identified for safety reasons called the ordeal “quite terrifying” in an area with “a really nice group of neighbours”.

“Nothing like that happens around here,” they said.
